Our beloved Mother, Beverly, passed away softly and peacefully on the afternoon of January 25, 2023 in Quebec City, under the loving care of her daughter, Lynn, her partner, Simon, and the incredible staff of the palliative ward of Hôpital St-François d’Assise. A fighter throughout her life, this last battle, at the age of 89, was one she was too tired to combat.
Beverly (Bev to most) was born on November 5, 1933 to Lilian Pirie and Francis McGarr in Montreal, Quebec. She attended Saint Willibrord Primary and Secondary Schools until, at the age of 16, she began work as a ‘girl Friday’ at Imperial Tobacco, a job she still proudly recounted to her grandchildren.
She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Maynard on April 25, 1954. Several years into their marriage, they adopted their first child, Bruce John. After two years of enjoying their new lives as parents, they decided to add another member to their family by adopting their second child, Lynn Ann. Then, three years later, their daughter, Trudy Elizabeth was born to them.
Once her children were ‘old’ enough, Bev went back to work. She found what she always referred to as the “job of a lifetime”. She worked as the secretary ensuring the smooth running of her children’s elementary school, St Jude, in Deux-Montagnes for 25 years . There, she made exceptional friendships that have endured until this day.
Her beloved husband passed away in 1996. Since then, she has been surrounded by her son Bruce John, and daughters, Lynn Ann (Simon Duchesne) and Trudy Elizabeth (David Cowie), together with her seven beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Chahaya,(Guillaume), Kathleen (Alexandre), Robert (Romely), Sarah (Alexime), Jalani and Kian. She is survived by her younger sister, Veronica (Vern). Her dear sister-in-law, Marjorie, her husband Mike and their son Mark have also played an enormous role in Bev’s life, as well as her very dear friends, Gisele (Eric), Lucille, Ronald, and Julie, amongst many more.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Holy Family church in Deux-Montagnes. Visitation with family will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the church, where the mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, interment at the St-AgapitCemetery will be held for those wishing to attend, followed by a reception in the Goyer funeral Home in Ste-Marthe-sur-le-Lac: 3150 chemin d'Oka.
