THURBER, Darrell

Thurber, Darrell Kevin MCpl Retired, passed away on 25th July 2024 in St Eustache Hospital PQ, after dealing with a lengthy illness. He was 66 years old.

He is survived by his spouse Lucie Thibodeau of St Eustache, Daughters, Amber Richards of Edmonton, Storme (Thurber) Nelan, of Hamilton along with April Thurber (Blake) Sisters Kate Roberts-Berteit (Gary) nieces Sabrina and Taylor, nephew Colton, and his other sister Cynthia Thurber and daughter Paige, living in the Moncton Area. Special mention to Devin Leblanc, his grandson living with his ex wife Karen of Moncton.

Darrell or “Thumper” as he was known, was an avid Mason, belonging to many bodies of Masonry in New Brunswick as well as being recognized in Quebec by Grand Chapter of Quebec, as well as the Grand Chapter of Maine. He attained the rank of Grand First Principal of Royal Arch Masons in New Brunswick in 2005, as well as being a leader in many other masonic orders. His health in the past years had caused him to withdraw from all masonic bodies but his friends never forgot him during this time.

During his time in the Canadian Armed Forces Darrell had many achievements, working as a telecommunications operator at various bases in Canada. He was mentioned in dispatches and was very proud to have served his Country. He was an embellished storyteller and loved to tell yarns about all the places he had been and things he had done. He loved motorcycles and drove down east to participate in various get togethers with the Forgotten Sons. He was made an honorary life member of the CFB Chatham Brass and Reed Band in 1985.

He will be sadly missed by all his friends and members of his extended family in Quebec, Ontario, and of course in the Moncton area.

Cremation has taken place and internment will happen in the Beechwood National Cemetery in Ottawa on 27 September at 11 am

He has laid his working tools aside and now goes to the urethral mansion in the sky, not made with human hands, a journey from which no man returns.
